Abercorn students are learning the Australian Curriculum Mathematics, English, Science, HASS, Digital Technologies, Health & Physical Education and The Arts. Specialist teachers from Monto visit weekly or fortnightly to teach Japanese and Music.
Our school prides itself on using the Age Appropriate Pedagogies approaches and principles to deliver the curriculum. This means students are actively engaged which in turn creates a love of learning.
For English, we strongly encourage good reading practices, such as Read to Self at school and Home Reading for twenty minutes. Most of our students participate in the Abercorn Book Club during one term a year. We use the Jolly Phonics program to develop student's phonics, spelling and grammatical skills.
In Mathematics we are developing proficiencies in student's Mathematical understanding, problem solving, reasoning and fluency. Students use concrete materials, ICTs, online maths programs and complete open-ended tasks to develop their mathematical capabilities.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in STEM Club using our Lego Robotic technology.
